Versatile kitchen device

IN a setting much like a combination of a pristine lab and a kitchen, a man stands behind an island counter, with a sturdy yellow block standing before him. He places a clear cup equipped with blades on the yellow body. Then, he puts in a cup of peppercorns and turns the machine on.

Vees Electrical Sdn Bhd head of branch Simon Choong looks up from the lighted LED wheel that serves as the blender’s high-tech control panel and takes the first step to making a yam cake.

The whirr of the Vees Deliprocessor high-speed motor filled the room. The 3hp (1,680 watt) motor can allow up to 30,000 rotations of the blade per minute.

The square cup of the blender has a two-litre capacity with blades that are not sharp. The explosion of sound was accompanied by the movement of the peppercorns that blew upwards. The grains knocked into each other, grinding the peppercorns to a powder. Yet, the powder stays away from being fine.

“The taste is different,” said Choong as he opened the lid of the Deliprocessor to reveal peppers that he assured have more taste than those ground to complete powder.

The equipment at the counter comprised the blender and a steam oven and small plates strewn about that held various ingredients.

Switching between the Deliprocessor cups, he replaces the square cup stained with peppercorn dust for another two- litre jug.

The difference between the square cup and the rounded counterpart is the four serrated blades at the bottom. The blades are meant to grind with power. Even a whole fruit can be blended into juice without being peeled and deseeded.

Choong places the pieces of yam into the processor. Then, he detaches the cap from the lid to reveal a measuring cup. Using the cup, he measures five cups of water for the yam cake. Once again, he toggled the dial at the front, and left the round cup to do its job.

The Deliprocessor can run for eight hours continuously without the motor overheating. The square bottom knocks the pieces together, creating enough heat to cook the flour within. Choong produced a paste and then proceeded to put it in the DeliOven to cook.

“The Deliprocessor is four faster than the usual blend- processor. With this combination, we used the Deliprocessor to blend and heat up the rice. Then, we use the oven to cook it the rest of the way.

Traditionally, you might have to blend and heat it on the gas stove to steam but this saves cooking time,” said Choong While waiting, Choong makes a smoothie. In around two minutes, a rich sorbet-like smoothie sits in a cup.

“This is because the square cup uses a knocking technique to make the smoothie. The result is a substance that keeps its texture,” said Choong

“Anybody can choose the items they want to use to make their smoothie such as using soy milk to replace milk for those who are more health-conscious,” Choong said.

The Deliprocessor has up to 10 speeds and time can be controlled manually. There are six ready-formulas for common processor use such as bisque, sauce, vegetable, soy milk, nuts and smoothie where the processor will automatically grind and stop grinding.

The heavy body gives it stability and the quality motor produces less than 80 decibels of sounds.

A triple safety protection ensures that if the cup is not placed on the processor, the times will not switch on. The Deliprocessor also comes with over-heat protection and current overload safety protection.

This Ramadan, a two-way stirrer that works as a thermometer and a stirrer will be given as a complimentary gift with the purchase of a Deliprocessor. The Deliprocessor comes with either the square or the round cup. The other can be purchased separately.

The DeliOven rings and the yam cake is ready. Using the 3hp 30,000 rpm function, dishwashing liquid and water, Choong used the processor’s own power to wash the blade. “Just a little rinse at the side, and we’re done,” Choong said.
