Organic Foods And Pregnancy

With the growing concern of pollution and pesticides, many more people are eating organic foods. However, the question everybody wants to know is, is it safe for pregnant women to eat organic food?
As most pregnant mothers desire to have healthy babies, most of them forget that in order for that to happen they have to have healthy pregnancies first. Studies have shown that during pregnancy, babies in the womb take in many things that also affect the mother in many ways. Pesticides and other chemicals that are put in foods can be really harmful to your baby. Tests have shown that pesticide exposure in farm workers has been linked to several health problems such as eye irritation, lung problems and cancer. The effect of exposure in pregnant women is unclear, but, the harmful chemicals in pesticides may be hard for your baby’s system to process and release. You may not be concerned about what goes in your food, but now when you are pregnant, you are eating for two, and it’s time to question what chemicals are safe for your baby.

Socrates was wise when he said “Let Food Be Your Medicine and Medicine Be Your Food.” This is absolutely the truth because the natural food that God created for us like fruits and vegetables have the needed nourishment for our bodies, to ward off many diseases, as well as for your overall health. God gave us exactly what we need to help in the healing process of the body, but most of us are not aware of this because natural, holistic and organic approaches have been overtaken and ridiculed by the today’s medical establishment who so fiercely push chemical treatments and over the counter drugs to treat patients of their ailments.

Choosing Organic Foods

Today GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) food is running so rampant that it’s almost hard to find any type of organically grown food. Since there has been more interest by the public into organic food more organic food products are being seen on the shelves of grocery food stores. This is good for any pregnant mother because not only can she eat food that is healthy, but she can eat food that hasn’t been altered in other words it’s still in its original state.

This brings us to our point concerning organic fruits and vegetables. Pregnant women will benefit highly from eating these types of fruits and vegetables because they will get the maximum benefit that that fruit and vegetable can deliver. If you eat vegetables try not to cook them. Eating them raw or steamed will have the most benefit than eating them cooked.

Expecting mothers are told to eat foods that are high on calcium, iron, and folic acids because it’s helps the growth of baby’s during pregnancy. When shopping for organic foods, make sure potatoes are at the top of your list. Farmed potatoes are traditionally sprayed with high levels of pesticides. Buy organic vegetables such as potatoes to help lower the risk of your baby being exposed to high levels of pesticides.

Organic whole soy beans is a great nutritious food for you and your baby. Soy beans grown on farms contain high levels of modifications and only a small percentage of soy is grown organically in the United States.

Apples are one of the best organic fruits you can eat while you are pregnant. Studies show that organic apples tend to taste better and are more fresh than the conventional apples grown on farms.

If you want to eat beef, it’s best to eat organic. Omega-3 fatty acids play a positive role in fetal brain development during pregnancy, and organic feed cattle are more likely to have levels of Omega-3 acids than nonorganic cattle.

Even though studies have not shown that eating organic foods is the best way to eat during pregnancy, it’s better to know your options. Just remember that what you put inside your body will affect the growth of your unborn baby. Take the time and visit your physician to see what works the best for you and your baby. These are just some of the fruits and vegetables that contain a good amount of folic acid. Make sure that you eat properly if you’re pregnant and of course adding organic fruits and vegetables to your diet will ensure that you and your baby will benefit greatly health wise.

……………………………………………………………………………………………
Green peas are green rounded pea seeds that are sweet and starchy in taste. Green peas contains twice the protein of most vegetable, so they are a healthier substitute for meat. Three quarters cup of peas provides 6 grams of protein, plus thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium and 645 units of vitamin A.

Unfortunately most of food industries in developing nations cheating the customers with fake greens peas which are prepared from toxic chemicals (dyes). These industries preparing the green peas form brown peas (cheaper) by soaking them in dye solution for overnight.

All these chemicals have been banned by US food and drug administration in 1974 itself. Frequent consumption of fake green peas leads to colon and bladder cancer.

All these fake green peas banned in US, Canada, all European countries and other developed countries.

Identification of fake green peas:
1. Put the peas in boil water for 30 seconds, water turns to green color.
2. After consumption check your tongue to observe green color stains and light bitter in taste.

Symptoms
1. Stomach irritation, pain or acidity.
2. Urine turns to light green color.
3. Mild head ache.

Case study:
I am a common person too and not aware of these things. After consumption of fake green peas I got stomach pain, with a little bit common sense I observed my tongue which having green stains. The following packet bought from Tesco, penang on 4th July 2010.

As a responsible chemist I started analysis of above mentioned peas in laboratory I find the toxic chemicals (green dyes).

Never go to any restaurant using this type of stove….steamboat using this type of stove is out of the question…now!!!!
—————————–
Now that I’ve warned you about the pictures I’m going to warn you about something else that will hopefully help you, or someone you know, avoid going through the same trauma that my wife, Kaori, and her family went through.

It was Kaori’s last day with her family in Vancouver, Canada before going back to Japan. And like many Japanese celebrations this one involved food… lots of food.
Yakiniku it was – so out came the meat and veggies and we fired up the portable gas stove that we see used in many restaurants and households in Korean and Japanese influenced parts of the world.
Just as we had done hundreds of times before for yakiniku, sukiyaki, shyabu shyabu or nabe parties – we all gathered around and cooked our food on the gas stove which was placed in the center of the table. The marinated meat and tons of little side dishes, Kimchi (spicy pickled cabbage), Chapchae (stir fried noodles) and Namul (seasoned spinach), that we bought from the local Korean market were delicious.
After cooking for a while the house started to get a little smokey so we opened the windows. The cool breeze felt great and the smoke quickly cleared.
We were just about to wrap things up. The kids had already eaten and they were playing with their Transformers on the other side of the room…. The adults were grilling the last of the meat, drinking a couple beers and chit chatting.… and that’s when it happened.
A flash of orange followed by a deafening bang! The butane canister inside to the portable gas stove had exploded. One side of the table… the side where Kaori, her mom and sister were sitting, was engulfed in flames. Before they could react a monstrous fireball of burning gas wrapped around them and tumbled towards the ceiling and out the window. After the initial explosion, the gas from the canister which covered the girls was still burning. They were on fire…. We were all in shock.… then came the panic and screaming.… then crying. The smell of burnt skin and hair was overwhelming.
Kaori’s father Sako made sure the kids were OK… then we got wet towels to cool the burns. We called 911 and, after what seemed like an eternity, the ambulance and fire trucks arrived. The three girls were rushed to the hospital and treated for severe burns.
Below are photographs taken of Kaori shortly after the incident.

As you can see her entire body was charred. I can’t even imagine how much pain she went through both physically and emotionally.

One side of her face was burned but her eyes weren’t – luckily she still has full vision.

This pictures was taken before the skin peeled. She has severe scars on both of her hands and back. Going to the beach and sunbathing is no longer an option. If she goes in the sun for even a short period of time she must wear the strongest protection, SPF-85 sunblock. Her skin is scarred badly and any sunlight will just make the scarring worse.

The flames wrapped around her body and burned her back and shoulders. She was wearing a tank top at the time of the accident so that didn’t help. Can you imagine what it was like to take a shower after being burned like this? Looking at these pictures brings back horrible memories.

Here’s a picture of the actual portable gas stove that exploded. The insurance company determined that the stove was faulty – the gas canister was too close to the flame causing it to become hot and explode. Both the manufacturer of the stove and the Canadian distributor, which were both based in Korea, are nowhere to be found.
Needless to say we will not go to a restaurant that uses any type of portable gas stove. Our family and all of our friends have thrown away their butane stoves and we now use a safe electric grill instead.

Hot Tea after Meal?
A very good article which takes two minutes to read. Sent by a friend who had about 25 or 30 years in the field with such emergencies. …I’m sending this to persons I care about……. why not do the same ?????

Heart Attacks And Drinking Hot or Warm Water

This is a very good article. Not only about the warm water after your meal,
but about Heart Attacks. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals, not cold water, maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating.

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this ’sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and can lead to cancer . It is best to drink hot or warm drink after a meal.

Common Symptoms Of Heart Attack…..
A serious note about heart attacks – You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting . Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms… 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we have to survive.

A cardiologist says if everyone who reads this message sends it to 10 people, you can be sure that we’ll save at least one life. Read this & Send to a friend. It could save a life. So, please be a true friend and send this article to all your friends you care about.

Take Care…

I was on a weekend trip with some friends recently and one of my friends was cooking breakfast for the whole group. I went over to see what he was cooking and saw he was getting ready to make a big batch of eggs.
Well, to my shock and horror, I noticed that he was cracking the eggs open and screening the egg whites into a bowl and throwing out the egg yolks. I asked him why the heck he was throwing out the egg yolks, and he replied something like this…
“because I thought the egg yolks were terrible for you…that’s where all the nasty fat and cholesterol is”.

And I replied, “you mean that’s where all the nutrition is!”

This is a perfect example of how confused most people are about nutrition. In a world full of misinformation, somehow most people now mistakenly think that the egg yolk is the worst part of the egg, when in fact, the YOLK IS THE HEALTHIEST PART OF THE EGG !

By throwing out the yolk and only eating egg whites, you’re essentially throwing out the most nutrient dense, antioxidant-rich, vitamin and mineral loaded portion of the egg. The yolks contain so many B-vitamins, trace minerals, vitamin A, folate, choline, lutein, and other powerful nutrients… it’s not even worth trying to list them all.

In fact, the egg whites are almost devoid of nutrition compared to the yolks.

Even the protein in egg whites isn’t as powerful without the yolks to balance out the amino acid profile and make the protein more bio-available. Not to even mention that the egg yolks from free range chickens are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids.
Yolks contain more than 90% of the calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, B6, folate, and B12, and panthothenic acid of the egg. In addition, the yolks contain ALL of the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K in the egg, as well as ALL of the essential fatty acids.

And now the common objection I get all the time when I say that the yolks are the most nutritious part of the egg…

“But I heard that whole eggs will skyrocket my cholesterol through the roof???”

No, this is FALSE!
First of all, when you eat a food that contains a high amount of dietary cholesterol such as eggs, your body down-regulates it’s internal production of cholesterol to balance things out.

On the other hand, if you don’t eat enough cholesterol, your body simply produces more since cholesterol has tons of important functions in the body.

And here’s where it gets even more interesting…
There are indications that eating whole eggs actually raises your good HDL cholesterol to a higher degree than LDL cholesterol, thereby improving your overall cholesterol ratio and blood chemistry.

And 3rd… high cholesterol is NOT a disease! Heart disease is a disease…but high cholesterol is NOT. Cholesterol is actually a VERY important substance in your body and has vitally important functions… it is DEAD WRONG to try to “lower your cholesterol” just because of pharmaceutical companies propaganda that everyone on the planet should be on statin drugs.

You can read the following article about why trying to attack cholesterol is a mistake, and what the REAL deadly risk factors actually are…Cholesterol Myths. In addition, the yolks contain the antioxidant lutein as well as other antioxidants which can help protect you from inflammation within your body (the REAL culprit in heart disease, not dietary cholesterol!), giving yet another reason why the yolks are actually GOOD for you, and not detrimental.

To help bring even more proof that whole eggs are better for you than egg whites, I recently read a University of Connecticut study that showed that a group of men in the study that ate 3 eggs per day for 12 weeks while on a reduced carb, higher fat diet increased their HDL good cholesterol by 20%, while their LDL bad cholesterol stayed the same during the study. However, the group that ate egg substitutes (egg whites) saw no change in either and did not see the improvement in good cholesterol (remember that higher HDL levels are associated with lower risk of heart disease) that the whole egg eaters did.
So I hope we’ve established that whole eggs are not some evil food that will wreck your body… instead whole eggs are FAR superior to egg whites.

Also, your normal supermarket eggs coming from mass factory farming just don’t compare nutritionally with organic free range eggs from healthy chickens that are allowed to roam freely and eat a more natural diet. Your typical cheap grocery store eggs will have lower nutrient levels and a higher omega-6 level and lower omega-3 level. On the other hand, the cage-free organic eggs from healthier chickens allowed to eat more natural feed and roam freely will have much higher vitamin and mineral levels and a more balanced healthier omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio.

I recently compared eggs I bought at the grocery store with a batch of eggs I got at a farm stand where the chickens were free roaming and healthy.

Most people don’t realize that there’s a major difference because they’ve never bought real eggs from healthy chickens… The eggs from the grocery store had pale yellow yolks and thin weak shells. On the other hand, the healthier free range eggs from the local farm had strong thick shells and deep orange colored yolks indicating much higher nutrition levels and carotenoids… and just a healthier egg in general.

So next time a health or fitness professional tells you that egg whites are superior, you can quietly ignore their advice knowing that you understand the REAL deal about egg yolks.

And can we all please STOP with this sillyness about eating an omelete with 4-5 egg whites and only 1 egg yolk… If you want real taste and real health benefits, we’d all be better off eating ALL of our eggs with the yolks.

Another interesting thing about eggs…
I read a study recently that compared groups of people that ate egg breakfasts vs groups of people that ate cereal or bagel based breakfasts. The results of the study showed that the egg eaters lost or maintained a healthier bodyweight, while the cereal/bagel eaters gained weight.

It was hypothesized that the egg eaters actually ate less calories during the remainder of the day because their appetite was more satisfied compared to the cereal/bagel eaters who would have been more prone to wild blood sugar swings and food cravings.

Enjoy your eggs and get a leaner body!
