A Chance to Change

An educated entrepreneur would be able to identify an opportunity at all times. When you decipher the word “Opportunityisnowhere,” did you read it as “Opportunity is nowhere” or “Opportunity is now here”?

If it was the latter, you have the makings of an intrepid entrepreneur in you. If it was the former, you can still learn to make the change.

The blazing successes of Google, YouTube and Facebook have shown that those who are able to identify an opportunity and quick to start a new venture would be able to grow rapidly. You too could realize your dreams of becoming successful entrepreneur.

Enter Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) Technopreneurship & Innovation Programme (TIP), a one-year, full time master’s level course that equips students with essential entrepeneurship skills and enhance their business acumen to turn novel ideas into successful ventures.

In its 10th run, TIP builds the crucial bridge between your passion and commercial venture that stands up to real world standards through a unique journey of transformation.

At the heart of TIP’s winning formula are the unique teaching methods and a curriculum modeled after the venture creation cycle.

It takes a budding entrepreneur through the course of turning inspiration into a business concept, and transforming that concept into an actual business.

The Nanyang Technopreneurship Center (NTC) connects students with business potential and with venture capitalists.

Students are grouped into teams to take the ideas forward and develop business plans. Students are also taught to market their ideas, support it with a viable revenue model, protect their innovations with patents, and secure funding through capital-raising plans.

Immersion

Immersion programmes are arranged for TIP’s students to visit technology hotbeds around the world.

Study tours are arranged for visiting:

-          The start-up mecca of the world such as Silicon Valley in the United States and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai, China.

-          Top corporations such as Microsoft (the United States) and Huawei, (China);

-          Educational institutes such as Stanford University and the University of Washington.

Students get the chance to take a first look at successful ventures that survived and grown to be global powerhouses. Intense immersion in the entrepreneurship culture accelerates their transformation, and thus, when meeting investors and venture capitalists in person, students absorb invaluable knowledge that simply cannot be gained in the classroom. (Visits may vary depending on market dynamics).

Passion for an idea cannot be taught. It flows from the belief that one has the ability to turn that idea into a business. That is precisely why the TIP curriculum resides within a vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem that supports students in their passion.

Spearheaded by NTC, TIP imerse students in a culture that fosters the entrepreneurial spirit.

Activities include:

-          High impact team-bonding

-          Networking session with business leaders.

-          Knowledge-sharing seminars by eminent entrepreneurs.

-          A “business laboratory” to test new ideas.

-          Corporate visits to local bigwigs

NTC director Prof Hooi Den Huan, says:”In NTC, we encourage students to make a meaningful difference to humankind, engage in a new venture that matches their passion and capabilities, persevere in the face of difficulty and observe integrity in whatever they do.”
