World class education in focus

Specialising in every aspects of the tourism and hospitality industry as well as business management, the Advanced Tourism International College (ATIC) in Penang is undeniably the fastest growing and largest tourism hospitality college in the northern region.

It was awarded ‘One of the Best Authorised Training Center’ in the Asia Pacific region by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the highest passing ration in the IATA examination for two consecutive years – 2009 and 2010.

The college also has the largest number of students in the country registered for the new IATA course and the internationally acclaimed IATA Diploma of which both are presently only available at ATIC.

Having built up an enviable reputation in just four short years, ATIC encompasses the Schools of Tourism, Hospitality, Management, Languages and Skills Development.

The School of Tourism, the largest authorized IATA, United Federation of Travel Agents Association (IATA/UFTAA) Training Centre in Malaysia, offers internationally recognized courses in Travel and Tourism, Aviation Studies and Cargo.

ATIC is also the only college in Malaysia offering the IATA Aviation Cargo and Airline Management diploma.

Boasting a 100% employability record, diverse job opportunities ranging from ticketing to travel writing, tourism marketing or research and reservations await students upon graduation.

ATIC has over 100 industry partners offering Hospitality and Tourism training and job placements for its graduates with some of them being employed even before they graduate. A group of students will be leaving for Dubai in the United Arab Emirated for their practical training in October.

Graduates also have the opportunity to work in the Middle East upon obtaining their diploma through the college’s close collaboration with IATA which is recognized globally.

Courses available are the IATA/UFTAA Foundation & Electronic Booking & Tools (EBT) Diploma, Airline & Airport Management, Cargo Management, Cabin crew Training and Certificate in Tour Guiding, amongst others.

Students are further exposed to the industry through a free four-day overseas practical training trip to either Hong Kong, Bali, Medan, Bangkok or Singapore.

Working adults and retired people may also sign up for part time courses such as the IATA/UFTAA Foundation & EBT Diploma, IATA/UFTAA Consultant Diploma, Steeping into Management (the only authorized training centre in the country) and Tour Guiding.

ATIC will be introducing new courses in Airline and Airport Management and Cargo Introductory under IATA/FIATA (Aviation).

The School of Hospitality currently offers Diploma in Hotel Management, Diploma in Culinary Art and Certificate in Hotel and Catering Practice. As part of the curriculum, students will operate the kitchen and restaurant which is open to the public. Every student is provided with uniforms and practical classes utensils at no cost.

They are also assured of industrial training and job placements with the college’s industry partners locally and abroad. Hospitality and Culinary Arts students also get to go on overseas study trip to explore the hospitality and food industry outside of Malaysia.

Courses provided by the School of Management are Diploma in Business Management in Marketing and Certificate in Business while programmes available at the School of Language include Certificate in Intensive English and English Summer Camps.

The Business programmes are comprehensive with solid syllabus covering all areas of business, management, marketing, human resources and accounting. Graduates are also provided with job placements.

The School of Skill Development offers certificates in Pastry, Bakery and Cookery as well as Front Counter, Restaurant Service, Pastry and Bakery.

Both ATIC’s main and heritage campuses in Penang are staffed with highly experienced and qualified team of lecturers and equipped with the state-of-the-art kitchen and restaurant. It also has an International Office in Hat Yai, Thailand and branch offices in Sabah and Sarawak.

Students are assured of a conducive learning environment, a library, accommodation facilities and endless activities of organized by the nine school clubs such as sports, heritage and hoteliers’ club.

Recognised locally and internationally, all the courses offered are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Financial assistance is available through PTPTN and Kojadi loans, EPF withdrawals and bank loans.

Under its Corporate Social Responsibility programmes, special discounts are also offered to senior citizens, single mothers, orang asli and students with special needs.

“Our objective is to cultivate both fundamental theory and skills into management studies to support the economic trends and industrial development of the country,” said ATIC chief executive officer and principle A.A.P. Vijayasegaran.

He added that the college expects to have 1,000 students by this year and would continue to provide quality and affordable education to both local and international students.
