At IACT College, all diploma courses from this year onwards will be conducted using the Project Based Learning (PBL) format. PBL simply means instruction relating questions and technology relative to the students’ everyday lives to classroom projects. Students from their own investigation of their own group, which allows students to develop valuable research skills.
The students will be executing their projects supervised by an industry programme from the first day. PBL is done in many different ways all around the world.
At IACT College, it is firstly done by students receiving The Project Brief.
The class starts off with a real world industry project brief that sets the direction of the project.
Secondly, Breakout to Research whereby students break into groups and gather important facts to narrow down the project brief.
Thirdly, the Project Proposition, whereby with the guidance of a facilitator, students then formulate the project’s proposition with their group.
Next is the Tutorial and Production, whereby students either meet the facilitator to discuss the project or they can refer to self-guided video-based tutorials. These video tutorials can be accessed by students any time and are delivered by industry professionals.
Finally is the presentation of the project which gives the students tie to showcase their findings.
PBL equips students with job ready knowledge and skills. It also improves creative, critical and analytical thinking skills. Students will also be committed to teamwork and cooperation to get things done. Overall, the lifelong learning experience is an integral part of PBL.
