FIVE Help University College students won the annual HwangDBS Bursary Award worth RM5000 each from HwangDBS Investment Management Berhad (HwangDBS IM) recently.
The recipients were Bachelor of Business students Clarrisa Tan Mae Jing, Tam Wei Yi, Low Siew Kuan, Sharon Tan Bee Lian and Chin Jiun How. These recipients would also undergo a one-month internship with HwangDBS IM after they have completed their studies or during semester break.

In 2007, HwangDBS IM started a scholarship and merit award to assist top HELP academics achievers complete their degree courses. Apart from these awards, HwangDBS IM also offers internships and career placement opportunities for outstanding HELP students and graduates.
HwangDBS IM chief operating officer Peggy Liew Li Choo said,”We believe in nurturing young talents and by recognizing the achievements and potential of these students, we hope to provide the necessary financial support and work exposure to help them succeed. This is also one way for HwangDBS IM to give back to society and we are pleased to reward top achievers with this award.”
Students majoring in either Accounting or Finance may apply for the scholarship. There were 38 applicants for this scholarship. Only five were awarded.
“The main emphasis of this award is on their academic achievements and where necessary, accomplishment in extra-curricular activities,” Liew added.
Clarrisa, a final-year student in Accounting programme said,”I saw a notice about the award and decided to apply for it. I was surprised when I was informed that I had been shortlisted foe the interview..”
“The internship opportunity offered will be a valuable addition to my resume and will help increase my market value when I enter the workforce. I am grateful to HELP for creating this opportunity with HwangDBS IM as it will help open more doors as I am interested to work in a financial institution,” added the former student of SMK Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.

HELP graduates have also been headhunted by well-established companies and were able to adapt easily into the workforce because of its ‘Future FIT’ programme.
These top companies regularly participate in our students placement programmes.
HELP’s Bachelor of Business (Accounting) Honours programme is also one of the few degrees in the world that has received recognition from CPA Australia, and the United Kingdom’s ICAEW and ACCA.
Students are able to specialize in seven majors under the Bachelor of Business (Honours) programme. The majors are Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, International Business, Human Resource Management, Hospitality Management, and Business Psychology.
HELP’s business studies programmes are also recognized by many top universities such as the University of Queensland, the University of Melbourne, and the Australian National University for credit transfer.
