UNIVERSITY graduates here have to accept the fact that degree is no longer a guarantee to a successful career or even a job as a trend in the United States indicates that graduate unemployment will continue to rise.
Such a situation can happen, anywhere in the world, including in Malaysia, explained Binary University College (BUC) executive chairman Datuk Prof Joseph Adaikalam.
“According to an American scholar, graduate unemployment is on the rise and will continue to be the case.
“So graduates have to accept this as a fact of life. Malaysian graduates have to accept that a degree is no longer a passport to a successful career or even a job,” explained Prof Adaikalam.

So what do future graduates need to do ensure his/her success in the competitive job market of today?
The answer is quite simple. If you want a good job upon graduation, with recognized qualification (JPA and Malaysian Qualifications Agency accredited) from an educational institution that provides you solid grounding on industry-specific skills and value for money courses, then BUC is the place for you.
“All our master’s and bachelor degrees as well as diploma and foundation courses are 100% accredited by the MQA and recognized by the JPA. Why take a gamble on your future joining courses that are not accredited?
“The diploma and degree qualification that you earn is a lifetime investment. Make sure the course you enroll in is accredited by the MQA,” said BUC registrar Roland Wee.
“Having an MQA-accredited and JPA-recognized qualification is the minimum standard expected by employers of today. You need more than a recognized degree or diploma to get a job in today’s over-crowded graduate market,” added Prof Adaikalam.
“This is why Binary produces ISP (Industry Specialist Professional) graduates. Through ISP, graduates are equipped with an in-depth knowledge and skills of specific industries.
“Business, IT and Entrepreneurship graduates acquire industry-specific skills over the three years of their course under the guidance of industry professionals.
The idea behind ISP is to impress employers with a new breed of graduates who know a particular industry like the back of their hand. Or professionals who can assume a job not because of what he or she can bring to organization.
“An ISP is not just there to meet the needs of an employer but to delight employers with the knowledge and skills that would be at least expected of fresh graduate.”
ISPs are Business, IT and Entrepreneurship graduates who have not only mastered all the “same old things” taught at any university but include in-depth knowledge of a particular industry.
Students can choose to specialize in any industry in the service sector, such as:
- Fashion
- Telecommunication
- Banking
- Islamic Finance
- Biotech
- Logistics
- Oil and Gas
- Advertising
- Event Management
All BUC programmes are based on the concept of ISP. As such, employers now have a choice of recruiting ISP graduates from other institutions.
“Although Binary offers the ISP along with fully accredited courses, fees are affordable so that students from different walks of life can sign up. This is in line with providing access to higher education to as many Malaysians as possible,” said Prof Adaikalam.
At the BUC city campus, the courses offered include:
