TORU Kumon, the founder of the Kumon method of learning believed in the value of independent learning. By refining this idea, individualized instruction became one of the critical factors of the Kumon method.

The unique method of Kumon’s programme paves the way for the development of each child’s ability in excelling beyond his capabilities and brings out the best in him as he enjoys learning.

Students progress as at their own pace and gain more confidence with each level they complete. They will progress ahead of their school level and learn more advanced materials independently.

This is how Kumon nurtures children to study beyond their school grade as fast as possible. Students with the ability to overcome adversity and think through difficult questions on their own develop the skills required to overcome problems they may face in future.

Kumon’s learning method takes students through a structured programme involving specially developed worksheets. Kumon constantly evaluates and revises the worksheets of all its programmes to ensure there is nothing hindering smooth progress.

The programme helps students think critically and analyse in an organized way. This also helps to improve their memory.

Kumon is available in two programmes – maths and English.

With the maths programme, the students start at a level that is simple and follow it through to completion, with the complexity increasing gradually. This aims to develop independent stody, complimenting the national curriculum and challenging them to study beyond their school level.

The English programme is aimed at enriching students’ comprehension ability to read and understand long passages of written materials. It is designed to provide a platform to higher-level study and serves as a great preparatory course for further education. The programmes are internationally renowned and used throughout the world.

Kumon instructors play a pivotal role in the academic development of each child. They observed the students closely and keep record of their daily progress.

Parents too have an important role to play. In Kumon, parents become very involved in the child’s education and they develop a passion to guide the child to excel further.

A parent who has been very committed to her daughter is Premita Kaur Dhaliwal. With her love, support guidance, Rehana Kaur Godrel, a seven year old student now finds it easier to attain straight A’s in her examinations.

Premita is currently seeing her daughter’s achievements both in school and beyond, as Rehana is able to maintain a good balance in the academics and play.

“  Rehana become more disciplined, is able to organize her time and prioritise what she needs to accomplish. Kumon has also taught her to be persistent and patient,” claimed Premita.

Rehana finds learning other subjects in school much easier as she can focus and concentrate better.
