A total of 250 American Degree Program (ADP) students showed their college mates that science is fun and has more than meets the eye.
The ADP students from Chemistry, Biology and IT classes came together for an interactive exhibition to create awareness on environmental and information technology issues.
The two-week long exhibition at SEGi College Subang Jaya required the students work in small teams, picking one topic on Chemistry, Biology or IT. After identifying specifically what topic they wanted to create awareness for, they did detailed research on it.
Then, each team had to prepare visuals, activities and exhibits which would illustrate the message they wish to convey through their booths. The students surprised their lecturers with many creative ways of getting their points across.
The experience in organizing such events is invaluable for the students. They get the chance to put into practice, research skills, event management, and communication skills and most importantly, apply whatever they have learned in class through creative application.
SEGi Education Group offers the ADP in collaboration with Upper lowa University (UIU). The ADP is a 4+0 Bachelor of Science degree programme with major available in Management, Marketing, Finance, Communications, Human Resource Management, Business Administration and Psychology.
It is one of the rare degree programmes which allow students to do double major in just four years. What is great about it is also that it has a student exchange programme.
The ADP at SEGi is also the only one which provides students the option of completing the entire programme in Malaysia or completing part of the programme in the US.
UIU is one of the few universities that offer its twinning students yearly subsidies of at least 50% of total cost when they study in the US.
Another uniqueness of the ADP is that it provides a holistic learning experience ensuring that students excel academically while building their character and interpersonal skills.
The American education philosophy and its teaching methodology encourage students to be vocal and think critically, with plenty of interaction between students and lecturers.
To ensure that students receive education true to the syllabus, SEGi takes the effort to constantly bring in lecturers and staff from the UIU Fayette campus from stints in Malaysia.
Students have assignments that encourage them to run projects relevant to their studies. Project work engages them with the public, companies in the private sector and the authorities.
Project-work is a great way for them to enhance soft skills and other skills useful for the real world once they graduate.
There are also many extra-curricular activities organized through its clubs –House of Fayette and the White House.
