ALMOST anyone can read to a child and find it be a good bonding activity. But to read with a child is a different experience altogether.
The awe and amazement at a small child actually recognizing words in storybooks is at times beyond comprehension. And the joy it brings to the parent!
Loh Sweet May is one such parent who cannot wait to share how amazed she is at her three precious children who great lovers are of boos. And it’s all because of Vital Years.
Loh first heard of Vital Years eight years ago and decided to send her son Sean, then four years old, with no expectations or pressure.
However, she was pleasantly surprised with the results and enrolled her second child, Samantha, at age three.
Samantha reached the Advanced Level in just a year and a half. She was doing comprehension and starting on simple creative writing by then. When third child Stephanie turned three, Loh wasted no time in enrolling her at Vital Years too.

Her children are avid readers and have developed an enthusiasm in exploring books. It has all paid off because their reading has improved their vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
Damansara Jaya Vital Years Early English Literacy Centre director Leow Min Sen says that cultivating the reading habit is an effort by both parent and child but the journey has to start somewhere.

Reading is not the only component in the Vital Years programme. Writing, speaking and listening skills go in tandem with the reading skills in Vital Years.
