KNOWN for its collaborations with designers worldwide, Uniqlo continues to wow fans with an exciting collection featuring Jun Takahashi’s Undercover label. As the chief designer behind Undercover’s unique, street-inspired cult fashions, Takahashi imparts his distinctively edgy yet upscale spin on Uniqlo’s new UU line that made its debut in Malaysia on March 16.
More than just clothing for the modern family UU is also Takatrashi’s message to the world, to encourage families all over the world to maintain a positive outlook as they face the challenges and demands of modern life. This new collection, melding next-generation aesthetics with the sense of perpetual joy associated with family, awaits your discovery.
“The collection is inspired by various elements which include people, music, movie and art. I also want to introduce the Undercover label to a broader spectrum of customers through the UU line. Coming out with the UU line is a good opportunity to do so,” said Takahashi, who shared his thoughts about the new UU line in an email interview recently.

Unlike Uniqlo which is positioned as a product made for all, Undercover was created for a specific target audience. However for UU, it is Takahashi’s first collection of clothing which was designed for a mass audience.
“It was a good experience to design this collaborates online with a global brand like Uniqlo and I would admit that it was indeed very challenging. However, I cannot wait to see how the mass audience would react towards my designs which have taken on a different aspect as it will be a much broader line than the Undercover label on its own” added Takahashi.
Not believing that fashion designing is all about reflecting trends or mass demands, Takahashi thinks that coming out with afresh design concept for each of his collection is important. Having to said that, the UU line focuses on the mass but still has Undercover’s essence.
The full UU line-up includes clothing for babies, kids, women and men, and covers abroad range of clothing essentials, from comfortable home wear to more distinctive fashionable high street items. Takahashi also designed the kids and babies lines with his wife and partner, Rico. As parents of two children, they lavished attention on these two lines producing a playful array of colors, unique prints and fine detailing that push the collection beyond conventional clothing for children.
Making it an impact collection, Uniqlo and Takatrashi created aselection of fine designs for men and women, so parents can have fun complementing their children’slooks. The men’s line matches gentle colors with dark tones, while the women’s line-up features a range of fashionable cuts and forms.
Takahashi has also accentuated these unique designs with an exciting palette of colors and patterns drawn from his popular Undercover line. UU is exclusively available at Uniqlo Fahrenheit 88 in Jalan Bukit Bintang. For more information, please visit the site at www.uniqlo.com/my
