Some how, the price for ink refills is expensive, or we can call it as Original Ink, by checking in internet, a cartridge is selling about $45 USD. For office use, I think basically 2 days per cartridge.

Reading the newspaper surprisingly Malaysia now does have this business which is a business focus on printer ink. Most surprisingly it available for Franchises base, and the ink is super cheap, by having the same price as original one cartridge you can now buy a full set of color plus black ink.

Below is some article on the business:

PeliStation spreads its wings

PELIKAN Asia Sdn Bhd (PASB) recently embarked on a new retail strategy which sees the franchising of its PeliStation branded outlets.

The primary purpose of PeliStation is to showcase the full range of Pelikan products and services which is constantly being added on to, especially in the office and paper product categories.

“In today’s economic environment, franchising as a business model has emerged as being more vital and significant to business growth than ever before,” said Pelikan Asia vice president, Kenny Kang.

“This move will further enhance our presence, in addition to the existing distribution network that we work closely with,”said Kang, who is also PASB Southeast Asia head (business operation) during the soft launch of PeliStation’s first outlet located in SS15, Subang Jaya on Nov 24.

“Pelikan is renowned for the diversity of its stationary supplies, as well as being a market leader and pioneer in the writing instruments and stationery industry worldwide,” said Kang. The PeliStation franchise also includes another Pelikan technology and innovation – the PeliFill machine, an easy-to-use express ink refill machine.

At the same time, use of the PeliFill machine will also bring about cost savings of up to 70% for customers and businesses.

The PeliFill machine and its toner cartridge remanufacturing method is compatible with almost 100% of current printer, ink, and toner models in the primary Asia region market – producing top quality ink which is as good as the original OEM product.

“The first store is set up as a prototype for our franchising model and to make necessary improvements from the experience,” said Kang.

“We aim to open another five stores under our wings by mid 2010, and we will start exploring the franchising concept in the first quarter of the following year,” he said.

PeliFill for quick and clean ink refill

PELIKAN Asia Sdn Bhd (PASB) is embarking on a franchising strategy with its branded outlet, PeliStation, which will also feature its PeliFill Express Ink Refill Centre. Its first PeliStation – a one-stop stationery outlet – and the PeliFill Express Ink Refill Centre were opened recently. At the station’s soft launch, PASB vice-president and head of Southeast Asia business operation Kenny Kang says: “Pelikan has been a leader in ink innovation since fountain pen refills were introduced and we continue to innovate for today’s consumer and business needs as a leader in the toner cartridge refill and toner remanufacturing business segments.”

PeliStation and the PeliFill Express Ink Refill Centre’s primary purpose is to showcase Pelikan’s innovation and technology and make them more accessible to customers. Malaysia is the first country to introduce this technology. The Swiss-made PeliFill machine is an easy-to-use express ink refill machine. Through this service, the company hopes to promote its 3R concept – recycle, reuse and reduce while introducing cost savings of up to 70% for customers and businesses.

According to an environmental survey, millions of inkjet cartridges are purchased annually and only 10% to 15% are recycled while the rest end up in landfills, taking more than 1,000 years to decompose. Kang explains: “Refill kits are not really environmentally friendly. The packaging of the kits alone creates additional wastage.

“The urban myth that refilling is bad for the cartridge and the printer came about because the average consumer does not understand the science and technology behind the art of refilling.

“Most cartridges work on pressurised systems and refilling without nozzle-cleaning and removing old ink.”
